Install Outline VPN on Linux

Outline is Jigsaw's wrapper around Shadowsocks. You install the server on your Linux VPS, then scan a key in the Outline client. This is not a Noble VPS product — we only host the machine.

Before you start

Use a Debian or Ubuntu image, a fresh VPS, and an SSH session as root. Open the ports Outline prints after install on the firewall.

Install

Follow the current official Outline Server install command from getoutline.org. Do not paste random one-liners from forums. When the installer finishes, it prints a management URL and an apiUrl ss:// access key.

Connect

Install Outline Client on your laptop or phone, import the access key, and test from a network that is not the VPS itself.

Hardening

Keep the OS patched. Do not publish the management URL. If the key leaks, rotate it in Outline Manager and rebuild if you are unsure.
